In the evening, Sept. 11, a normal day, lying on tatami and watching TV. I was a researcher in ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International), Nara, Japan at that time. Suddenly the well-known video scene was showing on news. I cannot imagine it is real. Friends called me, and confirmed true.

9.11 marks one relatively peaceful world ending. The world is becoming more and more turbulent. Big brothers are becoming more and more non-collaborated.

Any extra-power, which tries to change other country’s culture, always failed. Changing of country culture must be pushed internally, particularly from the majority people of the country in the bottom.

911发生的时候，我博士刚毕业，加入位于日本奈良的ATR（国际先进科学技术研究所）。这是一个平平常常的夜晚，我躺在榻榻米上看电视。然后就看到新闻，就是世贸大厦被撞的那些镜头。当时难于相信这是真的，怎么可能发生呢。朋友随后打来电话，说这是真的。

911标志着一个新的历史开始了。之前的世界虽谈不上和平，但还说不上多动荡。911之后的世界越来越动荡，恐怖主义、地区分离主义如火如荼。在加上某些国家对待恐怖主义的双标，使得消灭恐怖主义愈发困难。

911的真正教训以及最近的美国从阿富汗撤军，深刻说明外来力量是不可能彻底改变一个国家的文化的。改变的只是这些国家的精英，而绝大多数的中下层民众则很难改变。如果一个国家的文化不能彻底改变，这个国家不可能有彻底改变的，而文化的改变则是一个长期的任务，特别是要有一组精英已为国家未来着想的角度，对国民做长期的教育。可悲的是，现在世界上的大多数国家的领导层，都是短视的，利己的。

如果一个国家不能改变，就让它自生自灭吧，历史说明，只有当内部要求变革的力量和外部先进文化的双重压力，才会有大的变革。
